Animal sanctuary donations accepted

From now through Sept. 30, donations can be made to the Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary with a dollar per dollar match up to the amount of $6,000, with a total of $12,000 to benefit the sanctuary.

Two donors who want to remain anonymous pledged $6,000 in matching funds. To contribute, visit www.rainbowfriends.org and click on the “Causes” tab. Any donor who gives $100 or more can request a free Rainbow Friends T-shirt.

Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit no-kill sanctuary in Kurtistown that provides food, shelter and medical care to approximately 300 animals on a daily basis as well as attempts to find good adoptive or foster homes for the animals.

Monthly free spay/neuter clinics also are conducted through grant monies to lessen the overpopulation on the Big Island. The sanctuary receives no county funds and relies solely on private donations and grants. To volunteer, foster or participate in a clinic, call 982-5110.

Mystery show to benefit APAC

Aloha Performing Arts Company announces a special fundraiser — a mystery theater event at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar, 75-5699 Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.

“Conundrum on the Crackerjack Cruise,” a classic interactive whodunit by Nancy Bond and directed by Nicole Gour, will be presented at 7 p.m. Aug. 13-14, featuring APAC volunteer actors.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the evening of fun and mystery, which will include a lip-synching contest. Patrons can chat with the actors between the scenes and when they think they solved the mystery, turn in a ballot and sit back to watch the final act reveal the culprit.

Special prizes will be awarded to super sleuths who solve the crime.

Tickets to “Conundrum on the Crackerjack Cruise” are $35 per person and are available online at AlohaTheatre.com or by phone at 322-9924. Specialty gourmet food and drink will be available for purchase from Gertrude’s exotic menu. Patrons are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite Cruise Ship attire.
